Facebook makes another mobile acquisition: location app Glancee

Facebook today closed a deal to acquire Glancee, an ambient mobile location app that alerts users when people with similar interests are nearby, according to an announcement on Glancee’s website. Co-founders of the San Francisco-based startup — Andrea Vaccari, Alberto Tretti and Gabriel Grise — will join Facebook, but other terms of the deal were not disclosed

After 6-month run, page tab application no longer top Facebook app by MAU

Static HTML: iFrame Tabs — a utility for page owners to customize their pages with landing tabs and applications — has fallen to No. 2 on the AppData chart for top applications by monthly active users after more than 6 months at No. 1.

Facebook hires: engineering, recruiting, policy, more

Facebook either hired a lot of people recently or revamped its  Careers  page by removing redundant postings this week, as there were quite a lot of jobs removed from its employment page. Its  LinkedIn  feed only showed a few hires of software engineerings, recruiters and various other staff. Some of the positions removed from the Careers page included engineers, policy jobs and account management staff

Viddy, SocialCam, WashPo, Instagram, quizzes, games, more on this week’s top 20 growing Facebook apps by DAU

Mobile video sharing app Viddy gained the most daily active users of any of the other applications on our list this week. With 3.3 million new DAU, it outpaced second-place SocialCam by almost 1 million DAU.

Facebook platform sent 160M users to mobile apps in April

Facebook says it sent more than 160 million visitors to Facebook-integrated mobile apps last month, according to a post on the company’s developer blog. Native mobile games like Zynga’s “With Friends” titles, popular apps from Spotify, Pinterest and now Viddy and Socialcam are among those that benefit from Facebook’s mobile discovery channels. The social network’s mobile platform also helps web apps like the Washington Post Social Reader, Flixter and BranchOut

Facebook for Every Phone, sports, ‘Titanic,’ ‘Twilight,’ more on this week’s top 20 growing Facebook pages

A mobile Facebook application’s page topped our list of growing pages this week, as well as several sports-related pages, musician pages and popular movie pages. Pages on our list this week grew from between 407,800 to 3 million Likes. Facebook tests new icon to indicate whether activity will be shared after users click links

Some Facebook users are seeing a new icon on News Feed items which link to sites that share activity back to a user’s Timeline. The color of the icon indicates whether clicking the link will generate a story alerting users’ friends that they read an article or watched a video.

Socialcam, Viddy, Instagram, Metacafe, Candy Crush Saga, more on this week’s top 20 growing Facebook pages by MAU

Social video apps were very popular on our list of growing Facebook applications by monthly active users this week. Mobile video apps Socialcam and Viddy topped our list, with web integrations from Metacafe, Siz.net and Dailymotion also making appearances. Titles on our list gained the most MAU of any apps on the platform, growing from between 700,000 and 13.5 million MAU, based on  AppData , our data tracking service covering traffic growth for apps on Facebook
